Flash back, pre Covid-19, Tim Fowler exhibition ‘IMPACT’, 8th-29th February 2020

Tim Fowler’s ‘Pop Art’ portraits are captured with fast energetic brush marks in a vibrant, rich colour palette.  He uses abstract shapes, bold marks and liberal strokes to create an essence of form.  I like his signature palette of pinks and blues that create a striking contrast between hot and cold on the canvas.
Silver Screen legends and famous characters featured in the exhibition included Marilyn Monroe, Mohammed Ali and Malcolm X.  My favourite was Marilyn Monroe as I feel it exemplified her character, deciding to paint from a straight gaze with bold features gives a confident feel, but there is a tenderness in her eyes and the pink hues surrounding her; a combination of confidence and vulnerability.  The rapid, vibrant brush marks may add a psychologically chaotic nature to his portraits. Here are some photo's from the Private View.

Very happy to see my oil painting 'New York Empire State' sold at The Marvellous Art Gallery.  Hoping it will give lots of pleasure to it's new owner Steve, pictured here with Marvellous Art Gallery owner, Marvin Daika (centre).

The Cank Street Gallery closes in June 2019

I have been deeply saddened to hear the news of the closure of The Cank Street Gallery, 'the largest independent art gallery in Leicester.' Owner Dayle Flude and her team gave myself and many local artists the opportunity to exhibit our work, offering support and advice and giving us credibility to be in her gallery.  We all became part of a 'family', which I'll surely miss.
I don't think the Leicester art community will ever recapture that sort of atmosphere again and it's very sad walking past that area of town.  Just as the Leicester Mercury describes it, "it's hard to imagine now the art landscape of Leicester without them" and "Leicester will be a visually poorer place without this gallery."
A huge thanks to Dayle and her team for their tireless work and efforts to support us creatives!

Lizzy's Art Showcase, Cank Street Gallery Open Expo, 6 - 31 October 2015

Lizzy Hewitt’s latest collection of architectural paintings go ON SALE at Leicester's Cank Street Gallery Open Exhibition, 6 - 31 October. The invitation-only Private View takes place on the evening of Thursday 15 October. The pictures are for sale from 6 October.

"This collection once again features Lizzy's signature style of street cool figures set in known yet quirkily whimsical city environments.

In Sacre Coeur, a strong yellow ochre sky shines over quivering church walls. In St Paul's, the perspective shifts to a position above the built environment where a blood red sky is made in brush strokes rendered with passion and energy.

After the undeniably quirky architecture, colour comes across as perhaps the primary focus of these paintings. Yet Lizzy has always enjoyed fashionably peopling her pictures, with characters in these artworks both crazed fashionistas and weirdly sober suburbanites.

Lizzy Hewitt's attention to detail & quality of line have always impressed and on this occasion her bold, powerful skies in sing-out shades of orange, turquoise and red, impassioned above vibrating buildings, prove she is moving ever more keenly towards her deserved 15 minutes of fame."

The Private View of Leicester's Cank Street Gallery Open Expo 2015 is 6.00 - 8.30pm on Thursday 15 October. The Open Exhibition runs from 6 - 31 October. Lizzy's paintings are ON SALE from 6 October.

Leicester Art House review & pictures

Leicester Art House went incredibly well! The artist exhibitors were surprised by the number of visitors across the weekend and in the interest they displayed in all the types of work available, some of which was of genuinely excellent quality.
The interest in my own work was gratifying and the number of posters and prints sold (plus an original!) far exceeded my hopes or expectations.
So with thanks to the art-loving home owners who make Art House possible, and to everyone who expressed interest or parted with their cash, here are a few of the photos taken at Art House last weekend.

Taking photos where the sky meets the earth; Beacon Hill

After a frantic month of exhibiting my paintings I've been taking photos once again this week.
With such a view who can blame druids for worshiping from this site?
It was a joy to sell posters and prints of 'A Right Royal Street Party' but running around for 4 weeks, fetching, delivering, doing PR, none of which I'd anticipated being a part of the exhibition process, ate up time & money as fast as it became available.
Anyway, I had a call from the Leicester Mercury photo desk and off I went to snap druids on Beacon Hill. So, in a matter of days I've moved from the Royals at Buckingham Palace to the Charnwood Grove of Druids at the Bronze Age site near Loughborough; all grist to the artistic mill.
PS The ceremony was also being filmed for TV's The Hairy Bikers. Look out for it on BBC later in the year.

Meet the Artist, 20 July

Howard & Margaret Barker & limited edition prints
Couldn't have been happier with my first Meet the Artist session at West End Gallery on Friday. Some 30-odd people came along, we made a number of sales and exhibition feedback was entirely, brilliantly, positive!
Thank you EVERYONE for coming!
(And there's still one painting to arrive!)

Christine Denoon

With so many of my artworks now located in the same place, friends & family have had the opportunity to see what I've achieved over recent years. Their wonderfully encouraging comments have provided perhaps the biggest thrill of all :)

Now all I have to do is to sell my original 'A Right Royal Street Party' water colour, limited edition prints & posters! If you'd like to know more click through to my 'Right Royal' sales page here.

A cloud on the horizon is the worsening illness of my agent, who couldn't make the Meet the Artist event and is having to withdraw from other activities.
It was my agent who came up with the idea for 'A Right Royal Street Party' and provided ideas for the exhibition ad poster and so much more besides.
I owe her and I hope she'll be around much longer!
